The Government Of Zimbabwe has received financing in the amount of US$5.645million equivalent from the World Bank toward the cost of implementing the Hwange Biological Corridor Project. Theobjective of the project is to "develop land use and resource management capacity of managers and communities in the Hwange-Sanyati Biological Corridor (HSBCP)"

The project will include the following components:

Component 1: Protected Area Management and community Livelihoods. This component seeks to improve management of Hwange National Park and the livelihoods of its surrounding communities .

Component 2: ImprovedForest and Land management. The aim of this component is to improve forest and land management across the HSBC by developing tools to address land degradation, land use change and deforestation by implementingpilot activities.

Component 3: CorridorSustainability. This component is aimed at ensuring close coordination and synergy between the different components and project activities to promote better development planning and coordination in the wider landscape of the corridor and to facilitate corridor level scaling up of land management and biodiversity conservation tools and initiatives.

The project intends to apply part of the proceeds to payment for goods, works related sevices and consulting services. The Project scope includes the procurementof the following goods and works

  • Project vehicles
  • Water harvesting system material
  • Firefighting equipment and material
  • ICT equipment
  • Human wildlife conflict mitigation equipment
  • Gabion construction materials
  • Patrol Equipment
  • Satelight Imagery
  • Field radio equipment and systems
  • Game capture and translocation services
  • Game water supply installation and equipment.

The consultancy services include

  • Development of Anti poaching plan for Hwange National Park, Ngamo and Sikumi Forests
  • Human Wildlife Conflict Assessment In Tsholotsho
  • Detailed underground water study for Hwange National Park and buffer areas
  • Ecological study for Sidinda ward in Hwange
  • Sustainable land management study in Chireya, Gokwe
  • REDD+ scoping study for Ngamo and Sikumi gazette forests
  • Annual Project external Audit
  • Annual Project Internal Audit
  • Procurement Technical support to complement internal Capacity

The methods of procurement to be used are shopping, Direct contracting and National competitive bidding where appropriate for goods and for Consultancy services,Individual Consultantand Consultant's Qualifications will be used.

Procurement of contracts financed by the World Bank will be conducted through the procedures as specified in the World Bank's Guidelines: Procurement under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits ( January 2011), and is open to all eligible bidders as defined in the guidelines. Consulting services will be selected in accordance with the World Bank's Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants by World Bank Borrowers ( January 2011 revised July 2014).[1]

Specific procurement notices for contracts to be bid under the World Bank's international competitive bidding (ICB) procedures and for contracts for consultancy services will be announced, as they become available, in UN Development Business and dgMarket In international publications and local and Regional newspapers

Request for Expression of Interests for Consultancy are expected to start in April 2015

Invitations to bids are expected to start in March 2015
