Eskom Holdings SOC Limited (Eskom) has received financing from the World Bank towards the cost of the Eskom Investment Support Project, and it intends to apply part of the proceeds toward payments under the contracts for Medupi Power Station Integration Project 400kV Transmission Lines Project.
Eskom invites sealed bids from eligible bidders for the construction of a part of the Medupi - Borutho 400kV Transmission Line (Section A) - remaining work, over a 09 month period.

The construction will be done in accordance with Eskom’s design and specifications. The scope of work consists of the following:• The construction of new tower foundations;• Number of new tower to be assembled;• Number of tower to be erected;• Foundation and steel erection of underpasses;• Stringing of 24km;• Repairing existing access, creating and maintaining access for construction purposes;• Bush clearing for access and construction purposes;• Survey and pegging of towers;• Design and installation of concrete tower foundations in various soil/rock conditions;• Manufacture, transport and erection of galvanised steel 518 series lattice transmission line towers;• Stringing/regulation with single Bersfort phase conductor;• Stringing/regulation earth conductors where applicable;• Installation of line labels, bird-guards, bird-diverters and aircraft warning devices;• Rehabilitation of groundwork damage and implementation of environmental requirements;• Supply and installation of Fall Protection System and associated material;• Labelling and re-numbering of the full lengths of a typical project; and• The Post Insulators; Suspension and Strain Hardware assemblies; phase Conductor; and rigid spacers will be free issue.This invitation for bid follows the general procurement notice for this project that appeared in UN Development Business of July 8, 2010.Bidding will be conducted through bidding procedures specified in the World Bank's Guidelines: Procurement under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits, May 2004 (revised in October 2006 and May 2010), and is open to all bidders from eligible source countries, as defined in the guidelines.Interested eligible bidders may obtain further information and inspect the bidding documents at Eskom Head Office, Megawatt Park, Maxwell Drive, Sunninghill, Johannesburg, South Africa, during office hours 09H00 to 15H00 (RSA time).Contact person: Ms Wenza Nene, Tel +27 11 800 3075, E-mail: [email protected]Interested eligible bidders may collect the bidding document at their own cost at the Eskom Head Office, Megawatt Park, Maxwell Drive, Sunninghill, Johannesburg, South Africa, during office hours 09H00 – 15H00 (RSA time).
