Project ID No. P170213

The Government of Republic of South Africa (GoSA) has received financing in the amount of US$ 8,990,826 equivalent from the World Bank toward the cost of the Catalyzing Financing and Capacity for the Biodiversity Economy Around Protected Areas Project, and it intends to apply part of the proceeds to payments for goods, works, non-consulting services and consulting services to be procured under this project. This project will be jointly financed by the GoSA through DFFE, WILDTRUST, iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority (WPA), Kruger to Canyons Biosphere (K2C), Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET), Wilderness Foundation Africa, South Africa, National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), South African National Parks (SANParks), Conservation SA and Would Wildness Fund (WWF).

The project will include the following components:

  • Component 1: Build biodiversity economy nodes for community stewardship and livelihoods that comprises activities related to: (i) Support multi-stakeholder coordination platforms to develop and/or strengthen a shared vision for biodiversity economy nodes on land use and economic development; (ii) Provide SMME support across each node; and (iii) Strengthen governance capacity and ownership for equitable benefit sharing; (iv) Facilitate community stewardship to expand wildlife habitat
  • Component 2: Knowledge exchange across nodes and capturing learning on community stewardship and biodiversity economy related activities.
  • Component 3: Project management and monitoring, evaluation, reporting and learning (MERL) activities. Procurement of contracts financed by the World Bank will be conducted through the procedures as specified in the World Bank’s Procurement Regulations for IPF Borrowers Fourth edition, November 2020 (Procurement Regulations), and is open to all eligible firms and individuals as defined in the Procurement Regulations.

Specific Procurement Notices (SPN) for contracts subject to open international competitive procurement will be announced, as they become available, in UN Development Business online, on the World Bank’s external website and the implementing agencies websites ( DFFE, SANBI, SANParks, iSimangaliso WPA websites) the SPN will be announced on local government gazette.
