The School for Data Science and Computational Thinking at Stellenbosch University aims to be a world-class institution in and for Africa. The School was established to facilitate non-conventional, trans-faculty approaches to teaching and research in data science and computational thinking in an interdisciplinary way. It spans the entire academic spectrum, from undergraduate and postgraduate training to research and specialist consultations. Pligte / Duties:

The purpose of this position is to provide support to the De Oliviera laboratory with conducting research and diagnostic tests to meet project deadlines and within allocated turnaround times.

• Undertaking sample processing of various pathogens;
• Freezing and cataloguing cells;
• Preparing reagents;
• Participating in departmental academic activities (laboratory meetings, research updates, quality improvement meetings and audits, etc.);
• General laboratory housekeeping. Die doel van die posisie is om ondersteuning te verleen aan die De Oliveira laboratorium deur navorsing en diagnostiese toetse binne projek spertye en met gespesifiseerde omkeertye te voltooi.

• Prosessering van monsters afkomstig van ’n verskeidenheid van patogene;
• Bevries en katalogiseer selle;
• Voorbereiding van reagente;
• Deelname aan departementele aktiwiteite (laboratorium vergaderings, navorsings terugvoering, kwaliteit bestuursvergaderings en audits, ens.);
• Algemene laboratorium huishoudingstake. Posvereistes / Job requirements:

• B.Tech in microbiology/virology, or equivalent tertiary education;
• Two years’ experience in molecular techniques;
• Experience in receipt and sample processing;
• Good laboratory practice;
• HPCSA-registered.
• B.Tech in mikrobiologie/virologie, of soortgelyke tersiêre opleiding;
• Twee jaar ervaring in molekulêre tegnieke;
• Ondervinding in die ontvangs en prosessering van monsters
• Goeie laboratorium praktyke
• Geldige HPCSA-registrasie. Aanbevelings / Recommendations:

• The ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Highly organised and detail-oriented.
