To undertake a targeted and intensive survey on the Conservation Status of Endangered, Threatened and Protected Sharks and Rays to inform the Management of Seychelles’ Protected Area Network |

Contract Duration |

14 months Sharks and rays are amongst the most endangered group of marine animals in the world and to date many species are threatened with extinction, primarily as a result of overfishing. In Seychelles, shark fishing has a long history and has significant historical socio-economic importance. However, a lack of effective Elasmobranch -focused management measures have led to decreases in many species populations in our waters. A significant decline in shark biomass has been observed on the Mahe Plateau and Banks, which has led to the extirpation and scarcity of many species. This survey will focus on delivering scientific data that can be used to improve the management and conservation of threatened or data-poor species within the sustainable use zones. This will in turn ensure that Seychelles meets its international conservation and management obligations under CITES and other International Conventions and instruments but most importantly implement its National Plan of Action for sharks more effectively. The Ministry of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment (MACE) is now recruiting a consultant to conduct a targeted and intensive survey on the Conservation Status of Endangered, Threatened and Protected Sharks and Rays to inform the Management of Seychelles’ Protected Area Network. Expressions of Interest (EOI) shall consist of a cover letter and Curriculum Vitae. The deadline for submission of EOI is 9th March 2021 at 15h30. The submission should be clearly marked using the subject line ‘‘To undertake a targeted and intensive survey on the Conservation Status of Endangered, Threatened and Protected Sharks and Rays to inform the Management of Seychelles’ Protected Area Network” Interested applicants may obtain further details and a full TOR by submitting an email enquiry to Mrs Marie May Muzungaile on m.mjeremiemuzungaile@env.gov.sc and a.dias@env.gov.sc cc; meggy.tirant@gov.sc of SWIOFish3.
