P116410 Invitation for prequalification for the Civil Construction work for the Majuba Rail Project. This request for pre-qualification follows the General Procurement Notice for the Eskom Investment Support Project that appeared in UN Development Business on 8 July 2010. Eskom Holdings Limited (Eskom) has received financing from the World Bank towards the cost of the Eskom Investment Support Project # Component C.1 Energy Efficiency Investments and intends to apply part of the proceeds of this loan to payments under the contract for: CED(MR)/2010/PM/01: T he civil construction of a 68 km railway line in the Republic of South Africa between the Transnet Freight Rail coal export line west of Ermelo and the existing Majuba Power Station railway siding, both in the province of Mpumalanga.

The anticipated contract duration is 32 months. Eskom intends to pre-qualify contractors for the abovementioned contract. It is expected that invitations to bid will be issued in January 2011. Prequalification will be conducted through the procedures as specified in the World Bank's Guidelines: Procurement under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits May 2004 (revised in October 2006), and is open to all eligible bidders as defined in the guidelines.

Application for prequalification should be submitted in sealed envelopes, delivered to Eskom's offices at: Tender Office (Opposite the Main Reception), D Block west, Ground Floor, Megawatt Park, Maxwell Drive, Sandton, Johannesburg, RSA, on or before 10H00 (Central African Time) on 15 December 2010 and beclearly marked: "Prequalification for CED(MR)/2010/PM/01 # Civil Construction work for the Majuba Rail project ".
