Project ID No. P163568
The Republic of The Gambia has applied for financing in the amount of US$41 million equivalent from the World Bank toward the cost of the Electricity Restoration and Modernization Project (GERMP), and it intends to apply part of the proceeds to payments for goods, works, non-consulting services and consulting services to be procured under this project. This project will be jointly financed by the European Investment Bank.
The project will include the following components:
Component 1: On-grid solar PV with storage
Component 2: T&D restoration and modernization.
This component will finance T&D upgrades necessary (i) to absorb the additional generation capacity; (ii) to prepare for future capacity expansion including OMVG and other pipeline projects; (iii) to help reduce T&D losses and reduce power cuts; (iv) to extend the distribution network throughout the country; and (v) to enable future grid extension. The investment under this component will be analyzed in detail through a feasibility study being financed under the GERMP PPF.
Component 3: Institutional strengthening and project implementation support. Institutional strengthening and project implementation support. This component will finance key activities related to urgent activities to restore the sector, improved operational performance of NAWEC, and project implementation support.
The following contracts are anticipated to be procured through open international competitive procurement:
- On-grid PV solar plant(s);
- Construction of 132 KV transmission line from Brikama to Kotu and of 3 new primary substations
- National Dispatch Center/SCADA/EMS
- Upgrade of 6 primary substations
- Upgrade of secondary substations
- IT system for NAWEC
- Owner’s Engineer
Procurement of contracts financed by the World Bank will be conducted through the procedures as specified in the World Bank’s Procurement Regulations for IPF Borrowers, July 2016 revised November 2017, (Procurement Regulations), and is open to all eligible firms and individuals as defined in the Procurement Regulations.
Specific procurement notices for contracts subject to open international competitive procurement will be announced, as they become available, in UN Development Business online, on the World Bank’s external website and NAWEC Website: www.nawec.gm, The Point Newspaper and Foroyaa Newspaper.
Prequalification/Initial Selection of suppliers and contractors will be required for the following contracts: Not Applicable.
